Part One
The book of Job is a great
challengebut what great
principles to live by.
Interestingly, psychologists and
social researchers have
discovered that when we suffer
major loss and tragedy in our
lives, we all go through predictive
stages of grief. Centuries ago we
discover Job going through these
phases. In chapter 2, he was in
deep shock. In chapter 3, he
begins to ask why again and
again, trying to understand the
reasons for his personal tragedy.
In chapters 6 and 7, his
disillusionment turns to anger
against Eliphaz for judging him
and even toward God for allowing
these calamities and disasters to
happen. In chapters 9 and 10,
Jobs anger gives way to a sense
of hopelessness. He feels trapped
and isolated from God, even
though he has lived an upright life.
The most encouraging principle
from these events relates to the
fact that God understands our
honest feelings and He is not
offended when we share them
with Him. How comforting.
However, this raises a significant
question for reflection and
response: In what ways can our
feelings of anxiety, fear, anger
and hopelessness become sinful
actions?
